Amritsar

Amritsar is home to the Golden Temple (also referred to as the Darbar Sahib or Harmandir Sahib) is the spiritual and cultural capital for the Sikh religion. Golden Temple attracts more visitors than the Taj Mahal with more than 100,000 visitors on week days alone and is also the most popular destination for non-resident Indians (NRI) in the whole of India. It is built on premises that houses the Akal Takht, the highest seat of earthly authority of the Khalsa, and the committee responsible for the upkeep of Gurdwaras.

Amritsar is also the food capital of the world for Punjabi food. Amritsaris prefer eating out or takeaways than cooking at home. The more popular authentic Punjabi food joints are Kesar da Dhaba and Bharawan da Hotel.

About 28 Kms from Amritsar is Wagah Border. It is a gateway to the only officially open land route into Pakistan. Thousands throng this place every evening to watch the retreat. This is highly recommended

Amritsar is also a home to Chic Wall Art Gallery (chicwall.in). There one can experience art in different forms. Certain art forms there have been reinvented and the others displayed are innovated. It is located on the way to the Wagah border.

Chandigarh

Chandigarh, the capital of the northern Indian states of Punjab and Haryana and was designed by the Swiss-French modernist architect, Le Corbusier. Besides planning the city that stands today as one of the most modern cities in the world, he also designed several buildings Capitol Complex with its High Court, Secretariat and Legislative Assembly, as well as the giant Open Hand Monument. The Rock Garden is an antithesis, it features sculptures made of stones, recycled ceramics and industrial wastage.
