Manali is a valley sandwiched between the mountains of Himachal Pradesh and the northern end of the Kullu Valley @ an altitude of 2,050m in the Beas river. This is in fact the beginning of the ancient trade route to Ladakh and then to Yarkand and Khotan in the Tarim Basin. Tourists also use it as a gateway to Lahaul Spiti and Leh.
Manali is a major tourist city of Himachal Pradesh and is located in the Kulu district, about 270 Km north of the state capital Shimla, 397 Km from Amritsar, 309 Km northeast of Chandigarh. and 544 km s northeast of Delhi.
