The holiest of the Sikh shrines built in 1577 by the fourth Sikh Guru, Guru Ram Dass ji. The Harmandir Sahib complex also houses Akal Takht – the seat of God’s temporal authority.
It is a public garden known for the massacre of a non violent gathering on the occasion of Baisakhi by the British Troops under the command of Colonel Reginald Dyer. The place houses a well that the Indians chose to jump into to take a refuge from the mindless firing but died. JallianWala Bagh has gotten established as the symbol of British atrocities in India.
It is a premier Hindu Temple and supports a similar architecture as Golden Temple. It is reported to be originally built in the sixteenth century and rebuilt in 1921. The temple derives its name from Goddess Durga, the chief Hindu Goddess, who is deified and worshipped there. Goddess Lakhshmi (goddess of wealth) and Vishnu (the protector of the world) are also worshipped there.
